Tutor Profiles

Sarah is a freelance musician based in Manchester,
and has a diverse career performing as a fiddler
and percussionist. She is a graduate of the Royal
Northern College of Music, and was the first student
to major in traditional music there - taught fiddle by
Catriona Macdonald.

Sarah plays fiddle with The Maerlock, who released
their debut album on Fellside Recordings in July 2008,
and also for The Maerlock Big Band and new ceilidh band Fortuna Grove with three former members of Jabadaw. Other highlights include playing percussion with The Hallé Orchestra, Opera North, Southbank Sinfonia, and on an orchestral project with Jim Moray. She is also a board member of Folk Arts England.

Now a Shooting Roots music tutor for seven years, Sarah is also active as a music teacher and workshop leader throughout the year, with several peripatetic teaching posts in secondary schools, working with groups and individuals.
